1. Installation and deinstallation

If you have downloaded the zip distribution file, then decompress it into a clean folder. Run "setup.exe" and follow the prompts. Always extract ZIP file prior to installation, do not run "setup.exe" from inside ZIP file.

Note users of Windows NT 4.0, 2000 and XP: you may need some administrative rights for the installation. If you can't install the software, ask your system administrator or log in under administrator account.

To run the software, use Start > Programs > ZZEE WebMaster FTP > ZZEE WebMaster FTP.

To uninstall the software, use Add/Remove Programs link from Control Panel.

2. Requirements and compatibility

2.1. Client operating systems

• Windows 98
• Windows NT4 (IE 4 or higher is required)
• Windows ME
• Windows 2000
• Windows XP

Windows 95 is not supported jet.

2.2. Server operating systems

The system supports UNIX "ls -l" style listings with and without group information and MS-DOS style listings. It means that the following server OS are supported: UNIX flavors, Linux, NT / Win2K / XP with MS Server. The program also expects the paths to be in UNIX style with forward slashing and that an absolute path starts with the slash like in this example: "/folder/subfolder/name.ext". The compatibility also depends on an FTP server, what format of listing it supports. In practice, it should work with the established FTP servers, especially those that web hosting providers set up with their systems.

The program also supports the UNIX / Linux and Apache web server specifics, namely:

• Special file names, e.g., ".htaccess".
• Specific file types, e.g., those that start with a dot.
• Specific file icons.
• Concept of user rights (also called permissions).
• Marking up executable files (for example, CGI scripts) with the special overlay icons.
• Soft links, their resolution and in most cases automatic guessing of file/folder.

3. Introduction

WebMaster FTP is a Windows FTP client and management program designed for webmasters whose sites are on UNIX / Linux / BSD hosts. It can reduce errors, and substantially reduce the time required to perform web site management tasks via FTP. Having everything that you expect from an FTP tool for webmasters, the program also has some unique features like automatic setting of the correct file permissions and more.

The main components of the program are site manager, local and remote browsers each with file list and folder tree, queue and log.

4.1. Trial version

Trial version is supposed to make sure that the program:

• Installs OK on your computer.
• Connects to the FTP servers that you need.
• Able to perform file operations such as rename / delete / change permissions, etc.
• Can transfer files from and to FTP server.
• You like the user interface.
• You can see how file filter, quick compare, select files by mask, drag and drop (local <-> remote, remote <-> remote) and other advanced functions work.

Advanced features are disabled or limited in the trial version:

• No more than 2 items are allowed to be put to the transfer queue.
• No more than 3 items are allowed in the site manager. To test connections to all sites that you need, delete those done from the site manager, and then add new ones.
• Disabled: resume transfers.
• Disabled: append on transfer.
• Disabled: synchronize folders tool.
• Disabled: Save bookmarks.
• Disabled: Copy file paths and FTP URLs to clipboard.
